The Global Microbiome Conservancy (GMbC) works to preserve the full diversity of the human gut microbiome, with a focus on underrepresented and non-industrialized populations. By addressing the bias in current microbiome research, GMbC ensures that discoveries benefit communities worldwide.
Approach
We partner with scientists in more than 30 countries to expand the global reach of microbiome research. We collect stool samples from diverse populations, culture and preserve living bacterial strains in a secure biobank, and support ethical collaborations with equitable data sharing.
Analysis & Validation
The GMbC biobank contains more than 16,000 bacterial isolates from over 1,000 participants, including many species never before cultured. All collections follow standardized protocols, informed consent, and strict ethical guidelines.
